Trade Period 1
Through the season, you will have 3 opportunities to trade players in and out of your team, with trade periods after Round 4, Round 7 & Round 11. You can make up to 3 trades in each trade period.
This post is specifically for Trade Period 1, which is open from Monday 5th May @ 10pm AEST (after Round 4), and closes 1 hour before the start of the first game of Round 5 on Saturday 10th May.
(Starts on Monday as I need a day to review all the player scores and calculate the new prices after the completion of Round 4).
Why make a trade (or 3?)
Trades are a way to switch out underperforming players from your squad and add potentially higher scorers, or change the positional makeup of your team (e.g. you need another GK option).
The aim is to continually score more points, and also add to the overall value of your squad.
How trades work
You can make up to three (3) trades each trade period.
When making a trade, you can only spend the new value of your player/s OUT, plus whatever you have left from your original salary cap.
For example, say you only spent $990,000 initially, so you have $10,000 left from your original salary cap. You want to trade one of your players, whose most recent price is $50,000. You can spend up to $60,000 on your new player, with the value of the player you’re trading, plus what you had left of your cap.
Remember to keep in mind your positional options, and that you still need to follow the below squad rules:
No more than 2 players from each SSN team
You must have 3 Shooters, 4 Midcourters and 3 Defenders
Updated player prices
Following the completion of Round 4, the player prices will be updated based on their previous price and their form over Rounds 1-4. Price movements are based on the points they have scored over Rounds 1-4, so if a player has had high scores, their price will have increased, while poorer scores will see their price decrease. If a player has had little or no court time, their prices will have dropped to reflect that.
Remember player prices should be reflective of their estimated potential to score points in our Fantasy League. The lower their price, the less estimated points they should score (based on recent performances).
However, there will always be surprises! Cheaper players may score very well, and expensive players may not score as well, just like in real life. Welcome to being a coach!
The updated player prices will be posted to the Fantasy page, and can be seen here when live.
You can also see all player points scores for the season so far here.
Player changes
Note that some player positions have been updated, and in some cases this has added another court area for the player (e.g. was a Midcourt, but now a Midcourt/Defender):
Amy Parmenter, Fran Williams, Kate Eddy, Maisie Nankivell, Matisse Letherbarrow, Molly Jovic & Paige Hadley.
You can view their current positions and areas in the updated player prices linked above.
As they are no longer in the contracted 10 for their clubs, Sanmarie Visser, Mwai Kumwenda and Ruth Aryang have been removed from the player lists. If they are in your squads, please contact me with the form here, and let me know who you would like to replace them with (this is a free trade, but the squad rules listed above under ‘How trades work’ still apply).
Also, with her return Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard joins the player list and can be purchased/traded in.
Your leftover salary cap
Your ‘money in the bank’ is how much of your salary cap you have leftover from your initial squad selection.
You can view your leftover salary cap in column V of the Squads list here.
How to make trades
To make a trade (up to 3), complete the Trade Form here. (Link will work once the trade period opens on Monday 5th May @ 10pm AEST).
Your Trade Form must be completed and submitted before the Trade Period closes - 1 hour before the start of the first game of Round 5 on Saturday 10th May.
Your squad value
As player prices will all change after Round 4, your squad’s value will also have changed. So your squad may have initially been valued at $1M (if you spent all of your salary cap), but if you’ve selected well, it may now be valued at $1.2M. This is a good measure of how strong your squad is (along with your team points scores of course!). All of the updated squad values (based on the updated player prices) can be viewed here.
Don’t forget!
Take a record of your trades before you submit the form (the online team lists google sheet won’t be updated until after Round 5)
If you make any trades, you’ll need to submit a new Team Card form (here) for Round 5 with your new players
